Building Testing & Inspections

Through testing and inspection, we’re here as an advocate for the integrity of buildings and the protection of our customers’ interests, giving them a thorough understanding of the performance and permanence of their structures and providing the expertise and framework for confidently assessing and addressing a building’s needs.

AAMA 502

Field Testing of Newly Installed Fenestration Products.

This testing is based on guidelines established by ASTM International (formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials) and is done during the construction phase but prior to the issuance of occupancy permits. Typically, a sampling of windows from the project is selected and tested and the number of tests is dependent on the size and budget of the project. This testing ensures air and moisture penetration is minimized in new window installations.

AAMA 511

Forensic Water Penetration Testing of Fenestration Products

The AMAA 511 test is used to assist industry professionals in selecting appropriate standards for the application of field investigations of fenestration products. This diagnostic test involves recreating water leaks that are known to occur which is commonly referred to as investigative water penetration testing.

ASTM C1601-14

Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration of Masonry Wall Surfaces

This test is a non-destructive test method to evaluate the resistance of a masonry wall surface to water penetration from wind-driven rain by quantifying the surface water penetration under controlled flow rate and air pressure conditions. It is intended to simulate wind-driven rain conditions on the exterior masonry surface.

ASTM E783-02

Standard Test Method for Field Measurement of Air Leakage Through Installed Exterior Windows and Doors

This test provides a standardized field test procedure for quantifying the air infiltration performance of installed exterior windows and doors against specified criteria. It is intended to measure air leakage associated with the window/door assembly itself, not leakage through openings between the assembly and adjacent construction.

ASTM E1105-15

Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration of Installed Exterior Windows, Skylights, Doors, and Curtain Walls, by Uniform or Cyclic Static Air Pressure Difference

This test is a key standard for field testing the water penetration resistance of installed exterior fenestration products on buildings under controlled air pressure and water spray conditions. It is intended primarily for determining compliance with specified water penetration resistance performance criteria for installed fenestration assemblies, but can also evaluate penetration through joints between the assemblies and adjacent construction.

ASTM E1186-17

Standard Practices for Air Leakage Site Detection in Building Envelopes and Air Barrier Systems

This test provides standardized practices and multiple methods (e.g. smoke tracers, gas tracers, air measurements, themal imaging, and more) for locating air leakage sites in building envelopes, which is crucial for ensuring air barrier system performance and meeting energy efficiency requirements. Detecting air leakage sites is important for proper installation of air barrier systems and meeting energy code requirements and this standard allows flexibility in choosing the most suitable technique for detecting air leaks in different situations.

ASTM E2128-17

Standard Guide for Evaluating Water Leakage of Building Walls

This test is a comprehensive standard that outlines methodologies and best practices for investigating and diagnosing the causes of water intrusion issues in building wall systems. It is intended as a guide for evaluating existing buildings exhibiting water leakage, not as a design guide or quality control procedure for new construction. Various investigative techniques, both non-destructive and destructive, are permitted to identify the origin and cause of water intrusion.
